僕は夜型だ。
I'm a night person.
だから夜中によくコンビニに行く。
So I often go to a convenience store in the middle of the night.
午前3時頃だと、店員さんは控室にいて、店内には誰もいない時がある。
Around 3 am, the staff member is usually in the back room, and there's no one on the floor.
レジの前に行っても、誰も出てこないこともある。
Even when I go to the register, there are times when nobody comes out.
カウンターにはベルがあって、「ご用の際はベルを鳴らしてください」とある。
There's a bell on the counter with a sign, "Ring for service."
ベルを鳴らすべきだろうか。
Should I ring the bell?
店員さんに「何だよ、うぜえな！」と思われたくない。
I don't want the staff member to think, "Come on, so annoying!"
気づいたら、不審者のように、レジの前でウロウロしている自分がいた。
There I was, going back and forth in front of the register like a weirdo.
