【第1話】33歳にして日本で人脈がない

18歳から約15年間アメリカで生活してきた。
I have lived in America for about 15 years since I was 18.
今日から日本社会で再スタートだ。
Today, I’m starting a new chapter in Japanese society.
さっそくiPhoneを買ってきた。
First, I bought an iPhone.
さあ、いろんな人に電話しよう！と気合いを入れた。
Time to start calling some people!—I’m all fired up!
ところが僕は誰の電話番号も知らないことに気づいた。
But I realized that I don’t know anybody’s phone number.
33歳にして、日本で何のコネもない。
At 33, I have no connections in Japan.
とりあえず、家族の番号を登録した。
So I just saved my family's numbers.
それと近所の歯医者の番号もね。
And the number of a nearby dentist.
