No more pennies: US Mint (アメリカ造幣局) presses its last penny after 232 years

The US Mint has officially stopped making pennies, ending production of the US penny on Wednesday, November 13, after more than two centuries in circulation.
The last penny was minted today at the Philadelphia Mint, where the first one-cent coins were produced back in 1793.
How much does it cost to make a penny?
According to the US Mint, each penny costs 3.69 cents to produce, more than triple its face value. By ending penny production, the U.S. is projected to save about $56 million annually.
Is a penny legal tender (法定通貨), and can you still use pennies?
Yes. "The penny remains legal tender and will retain its value indefinitely," the Treasury Department said.
Why are pennies going away?
For years, both retailers and lawmakers have pushed for the U.S. to abolish the penny, arguing that it no longer serves a practical purpose in modern commerce.
